|Delta||In 1972 Judy Fink Beckmen and her husband launched a wholesale music business, Beckmen Musical Instruments, in Los Angeles. They sold everything from guitar and band instruments to rhythm machines. The business later became Roland Corp. U.S., an electronic musical instrument company specializing in synthesizers and audio processing devices. The couple built the company into one of the world’s largest manufacturers and distributors of electronic musical equipment.
In the company’s infancy, Beckmen worked in every department, from bookkeeping to marketing. The ’80s spawned dramatic developments in electronic music, and she found it exciting to be in the forefront of music technology. The Beckmens sold the corporation in 1993.
